With the recent release of Mozilla Firefox 17, the SUNY Learning Network has been made aware of a critical issue which affects ANGEL features which make use of the HTML Editor, such as discussion posts, dropboxes, Course Mail, and various grading and editing tools for instructors. We would like to clarify that *use of this browser version is {color:red}NOT recommended{color} at this time.* Use of this version will result in the inability to edit existing content or complete certain assignments.\\
\\
At this time, we suggest disabling automatic updates (see instructions below) and to continue using version 16 until more information or a fix can be obtained from ANGEL/Blackboard. If this update has already been installed, we can recommend the following two solutions:\\
\\
1. *Use Internet Explorer.* All current versions (7, 8, 9) are still compatible with ANGEL 7.4.
2. *Downgrade Firefox from 17 to 16.* This is the only option for Mac users.\\
\\
To install Firefox 16, please use the following links:\\
\\
Firefox for Windows [https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/16.0.2/win32/en-US/Firefox%20Setup%2016.0.2.exe]
Firefox for Mac [https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/16.0.2/mac/en-US/Firefox%2016.0.2.dmg] \\
\\
All Firefox users will want to *disable automatic updates*. For Windows users, this setting is found under *Tools menu > Options > Advanced tab > Update tab*, and for Mac users this is found under *Firefox menu > Preferences > Advanced tab > Update panel*. In this area, the first option for "Firefox" should be *UNCHECKED*.

{color:red}*Note: Users of Firefox versions 4 through 10 will want to disable automatic updates*.{color} For Windows users, this setting is found under *Tools menu > Options > Advanced tab > Update tab*, and for Mac users this is found under *Firefox menu > Preferences > Advanced tab > Update panel*. In this area, the second option for "When updates to Firefox are found" should be set to *Ask me what I want to do*. In the event that an update is available, incremental updates (for example, an update from 10.0.0 to 10.0.1) can be *allowed* as these usually address bugs or security issues. Version updates (for example, an update from 9.0 to 10.0) should be *declined* until the SLN can confirm full functionality.
