Goals (what does this group hope to do?)

Through the FACTT committee to advise the SUNY Provost about support and resources for teaching, learning and its scholarship within the system by:

        Documenting the current state of resources and support provided at both the individual campuses and through SUNY admin.

        Identifying large scale needs not currently met.

        Recommending current and potential mechanisms to best aggregate resources across the system including:

o         Regional support structures

o         Academic discipline focused sharing across campuses.

        Developing and sharing a set of best practices that could be implemented at individual campuses.

 

Expected Outcomes/Deliverables:

        Document existing support organizations at the campuses and contacts for each.

        Determine the current state of support at each of the campuses for Teaching & Learning.

o         Design a set of appropriate metrics.

o         Develop and distribute survey based on metrics.

        Based on survey results

o         Determine where common areas of weakness exist and how they might be reinforced by cross campus or central resources.

o         Determine areas of strength at each campus that other campuses could benefit from.

o         Recommendations for minimum standards of faculty development for a campus

        Determine what information would be useful to share between the campuses and the best mechanism to mediate this exchange (e.g. SUNY Teaching and Learning web site).

        Present report to SUNY Provost on survey findings.

        Present report at CIT session

o         Survey findings

o         Proposed web site structure and maintenance plan.

o         Models of faculty development support at campuses

o         If a hosting solution has been found demonstrate web/Wiki site.

        SUNY values and wants to increase its reputation as a great teaching institution.

        SUNY will provide staff and financial support to increase this quality

        Individual campuses reward teaching appropriately and hire good teachers.

        Campuses will welcome collaborations rather than being threatened by them.
