Summary

ANGEL and Blackboard users may need to adjust their browser cookie settings.


Details

Online students and faculty may find that when logging into their courses, the Open SUNY Browser Compatibility area alerts them to adjust their browser cookie settings. This must be done to allow account sessions to function correctly. The following browser-specific directions will illustrate how to adjust these settings.

     

    1. Click the Tools menu at the top of the browser window.
    2. Select Internet Options.
    3. Choose the Privacy tab at the top of the Options window.
    4. Click the Advanced button.
    5. Make sure of the following:
      • Override automatic cookie handling is checked
      • First-party Cookies is set to Accept
      • Third-party Cookies is set to Accept
      • Always allow session cookies is checked
    6. Click OK, then click OK again to close the Options window.

    1. Click the Firefox button at the top of the browser window (or the Tools menu if the menu bar is present).
    2. Select Options.
    3. Choose the Privacy tab at the top of the Options window.
    4. Make sure of the following:
      • Firefox will: is set to Use custom settings for history
      • Accept cookies from sites is checked
      • Accept third party cookies is checked
      • Keep until: is set to they expire
    5. The other settings can be changed if desired, but this is not necessary. Click OK to close the Options window.

    1. Click the Customize and control Google Chrome button located next to the address bar.
    2. Click Settings.
    3. Within the Settings tab, click the Show advanced settings link at the bottom of the page.
    4. Scroll down to the Privacy settings.
    5. Click the Content settings button.
    6. Under Cookies, make sure of the following:
      • Allow local data to be set is selected
      • Block third-party cookies and site data is unchecked
    7. Click the X button in the corner to close the Content settings pop-up.
    8. Close the Settings tab.

    1. Click the Safari menu at the top of the screen.
    2. Click Preferences.
    3. Under the Security tab, make sure of the following:
      • Accept Cookies is set to Always
    4. Click the Close button.

     

    Please note that Safari for Windows is not currently supported by either ANGEL or Blackboard learning management systems, and is not recommended for use.
